Presentation to Fashion Students

In May of 2023, I was asked to do a small presentation to the fashion classes at my old high school.

I’m from a small town, and my mother loves to tell everyone about what I have been up to in the years since I moved away. And this time, the teacher who oversees the new fashion classes was eager to have me talk to the students.

I agreed, and prepared a powerpoint that displayed my work over the years, and some pieces that I couldn’t bring.

I presented three times, to different grades and classes, with students of varying interest in pursuing fashion in their futures.

At the time, these were my most recent and most impressive pieces. The Norse dress and the cape-sleeve dress. On the right, a spider web corset and skirt, an earlier project from the same course.

The bulk of my presentation was simply showing off my work. I had just finished my fashion education but was still working on my co-op hours, so not yet officially graduated. Because of this, I was a bit nervous that I didn’t have a lot to tell the students in the way of advice about the schools, programs, and careers that are out there. However, I was able to answer most of the questions they had, and many of the students were very engaged with my displays.

The teacher who had asked me there was very happy with my presentation, and wants me to come again!

Sometimes I forget how much I have done and that some of it is actually quite impressive- nothing like visiting your small hometown to remind you what you do isn’t that common! And I have a lot of fans in my small hometown- thanks to my mom. (Hi mom)
