1890s Beaded Capelet
Found at an antique mall for $20 in Edmonton, Alberta.
Black, beaded capelet (possibly jet beads) with brown lining. Machine and hand sewn.
Very interesting scarring is evident on tail section of capelet.
Shows evidence of many modifications over time. Closed buttonholes are present. Twill tape used to line where beading was applied. Pieces are significantly asymmetrical. The beading is also very imperfect, but somehow not immediately noticeable. (throw enough beads on there and its too shiny for anyone to notice if you measured anything lol)
Closes with hooks and eyes.
The bows are the best part.
Capelet is much too small too wear, but I hope to take the pattern and make a replica that will fit me. The only question is if I will dare attempt to replicate the beading!
